Lord Nash joins as the latest Founding Patron

Cancer Awareness Trust welcomes Lord Nash as our latest Founding Patron.

Lord Nash joins our esteemed Founding Patrons, with a generous gift of philanthropic support, and his vast expertise, backing Cancer Awareness Trust to build Cancer Platform; the digital tool that will enable everyone to face cancer empowered with expert knowledge and truth providing a sense of hope and optimism.

Lord John Nash is a Venture Capitalist, also formerly a Conservative Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Schools. He was chair of the British Venture Capital Association and on the board of the think-tank, the Centre for Policy Studies. With his wife, Caroline Nash, he founded the charity Future, which was appointed by the Labour Government in 2008 to sponsor Future Academies, a trust managing school academies in London and Hertfordshire with a total of 7000 pupils. Future also supports other organisations focussed on less advantaged children and young people.

After reading Law at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, Nash became a barrister before moving into finance. Nash was Assistant Director of Lazard Brothers and Co Ltd before moving to private equity firm Advent Limited, becoming its managing director. He was co-founder of private equity firm Sovereign Capital, as well as being chair of the British Venture Capital Association. He is a former judge of The Prince of Wales Award for Innovation. He is also the former chairman of one of the biggest contractors to the NHS, Care UK. In 2013 Nash left Sovereign Capital to pursue his political interests.

Lord Nash comments, “I’m delighted to become a Patron of this extremely worthwhile charity which I’m sure will be of great value to many people in understanding and navigating cancer.”

Founder, Prof. Sir Chris Evans comments, “I am delighted Lord Nash has joined me and the many others backing Cancer Awareness Trust. As our latest Founding Patron, he joins with an incredible personal track record in tech and philanthropy, at a critical moment for the charity and inspires others to get onboard. Welcome Lord Nash!”
