New board of Trustees announced
We’re delighted to announce our new Trustees, joining Prof. Alan Palmer, and our Founders Prof. Sir Chris Evans and Dr Rajan Jethwa. The new appointments were confirmed earlier this month, although many have supported us for the best part of a year already. The appointments further demonstrate our ambition to bring some of the best leaders together to help shape our cause.
Seerave Foundation – Founder David Rees joins our board as Co-Founder and Trustee, representing Seerave Foundation, a family led foundation seeking to accelerate science and catalyse innovation enabling personalised cancer treatment.
Sheila Kissane-Marshall is the Founder of Boutros Bear, formerly a civil engineer working on major projects including The Shard. Sheila brings her own lived experience of cancer and has been with the organisation since early 2023.
Fiona Debney is a Legal Director at Gately PLC and brings extensive experience in the good governance of non-profits and philanthropy. As one of the top experts in her field, Fiona brings us the level of expertise we need to ensure we go beyond good governance.
Julian Howard was formerly a Managing Partner at Macfarlanes LLP and brings his lived experience of prostate cancer to our development journey, and has been with us for over a year, already one of our Founding Patrons and a valued critical friend to our executives.
Maha Sardar is a dual qualified barrister and solicitor, working in human rights, immigration and asylum for over a decade. Maha’s additionally brings experience of cancer through the loss of a parent, and the development of a tech platform for immigrants/refugees.
Sharon Jones is one of the UK’s top experts in philanthropy and funding for charities and has long supported the charity with the fundraising strategy. Sharon also brings her own lived experience of cancer.
Nicola Brentnall MVO brings 25+ years of executive and board-level experience across all sectors, including roles with The Queen’s Trust an Ajaz.org. Nicola also brings her own lived experience of cancer, having lost her beloved partner Tom to cancer.
Shane Markanday is a Senior Audit Manager at Grant Thornton LLP and recently supported one of her parents through their cancer journey, an important aspect of our development plan.
Dr Jane Smit brings over 30 years of experience in numerous fields spanning life sciences and venture capital, biotech and diagnostic oncology research as well as her own lived experience of cancer. Jane also holds a PhD in immuno-oncology.
The Cancer Awareness Trust is committed to creating environments and structures that represent the communities we serve. Further appointments to our board are pending in 2024.
