We are now participants of the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) Regulatory Sandbox. Here’s what that means for our future users
We are pleased to announce our participation in the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) Regulatory Sandbox. The ICO is the UK's independent body set up to uphold information rights, and its regulatory sandbox is a service that supports organisations in creating products and services that use personal data in innovative and safe ways.
Data is fundamental to Cancer Platform's journey. It is how we will deliver genuine change that deepens connections and collaboration among the cancer sector's leaders and organisations. Yet, while revolutionising the cancer sector means doing things differently, our innovation will always be grounded in maintaining the trust of our users and focussed on protecting their personal data.
Our Sandbox participation means Cancer Platform has the opportunity to engage with the ICO's dedicated Sandbox team and draw upon wider expertise across the ICO. We will explore data protection challenges, receive advice on mitigating any risks, and seek guidance on embedding 'data protection by design'.
A 'data protection by design' approach puts the individual rights of our users at the heart of platform development. It ensures consideration of privacy and data protection issues from the earliest platform design phases and beyond throughout each stage of the development lifecycle as we refine and improve the platform to better equip everyone impacted by cancer.
Our Sandbox participation demonstrates our commitment to a proactive approach to data privacy and protection, and we are hugely excited to work with the ICO. Their guidance will be invaluable as we strive to put in place the technical and organisational measures needed to implement the UK's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) principles effectively and integrate safeguards into any data processing so that we continuously protect the rights of all Cancer Platform users.
