PHTA joins the Cancer Awareness Trust as a Founding Partner

The Cancer Awareness Trust is excited to introduce our latest Founding Partner, the Precision Health Technologies Accelerator (PHTA).

PHTA is the University of Birmingham’s flagship life sciences research facility that will soon occupy the top three floors of No.1 BHIC – the first phase of the ambitious Birmingham Health Innovation Campus (BHIC). A ten-acre site which will create 10,000 jobs within ten years, BHIC is being delivered in partnership between the University and investor-developers Bruntwood SciTech.

Providing approximately 70,000 square feet of state-of-the-art incubation and collaboration space, PHTA brings entrepreneurs, start-ups, and scale-ups together with the next generation of academic and clinical leaders, creating unique opportunities to commercialise ideas and accelerate the rapid development of cutting-edge therapies and technologies. PHTA gives innovators and small enterprises access to the expertise, resources, and infrastructure that will enable translation of healthcare innovations – including phase I to III clinical trials and real-world evaluation.

Collaborating with PHTA strengthens our already impressive range of partnerships across the West Midlands. Together we plan to connect innovators in health, especially those that can deliver better outcomes for people affected by cancer, to the resources and networks of PHTA and The Cancer Platform.

Professor Gino Martini, CEO of PHTA Ltd, explained: “Having recently lost a close relative to cancer, it’s never been clearer to me that early detection improves outcomes and saves lives. We are determined to support our resident businesses and partner organisations throughout all stages of their development journey, to ensure new diagnostics and treatments reach patients more quickly.”

“Birmingham is home to many of our greatest partnerships and I am very pleased to add the ambitious PHTA to our list of Founding Partners. Many of the innovations developed at PHTA’s innovation hub will go on to feature prominently on our platform, and we’ll collaborate to foster connections that accelerate everyone’s ability to ‘get there quicker’ on anything that, in particular, can improve the cancer journey.” Prof. Sir Chris Evans, Founder, The Cancer Awareness Trust
