The Men’s Virtual Meet Up, joins Cancer Awareness Trust as latest ambassadors

As we ‘Get on with it’ in 2024, scaling up our ambassador programme becomes a key focus. With two fantastic individuals in Nina Lopes and Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor already part of the family, we’re looking to work with others who share our vision, mission and purpose, and who recognise the need for Cancer Platform.

Our latest addition to the Ambassador programme is The Men’s Virtual Meet Up (VMU) - an organisation for men diagnosed with breast cancer, allowing them to feel seen and to know that they are not alone. Co-founded in October 2020 by breast cancer ‘thriver’, Doug Harper, and health psychologist, Dr Kerry Quincey, The Men’s VMU is a monthly meeting on Zoom that offers a place to talk openly and share experiences. It provides a much needed support network.

Until recently, there was very little information about the disease but The Men’s VMU have worked tirelessly with charities, NHS, clinicians, researchers, and press, to raise awareness of the disease and are passionate that this continues. The work they have done is extraordinary, but there is still a long way to go and we are delighted to be able to support them.

Together we’ll amplify the voices of men impacted by male breast cancer, helping the organisation to reach more people looking for help. We’ve supported them to build their brand and website, and we’ll help promote their ongoing Virtual Meet Ups. Members will play an active role in shaping Cancer Platform, sharing their experiences that will help inform the product we are creating.

“The VMU is for men diagnosed with breast cancer to feel seen and heard and to know that they are not alone. Breast Cancer stole our voice, the VMU gave it back to us and now Cancer Platform is helping to amplify it. We are excited to collaborate and reach as many men as possible. Come join us!” said, The Men’s VMU

MD, Tony Colville, welcomes our new Ambassadors, “Alongside Nina Lopes and Andy Taylor, I am delighted to add The Men’s VMU as our latest Ambassador. After a fantastic year of collaboration, listening to what they needed and wanted to achieve, we’ve worked with them to design a new website that will help reach a larger audience. This space will act as an essential signposting tool to their service helping to support others diagnosed with male breast cancer. We see our role as a way to amplify the organisation’s voice, their journey, and t help other men affected by breast cancer to know they aren’t alone. I’m honoured we can do that with them as our Ambassadors”.

Visit their brand new website to find out more -themensvmu.org and how you can join the next Virtual Meet Up.
